Official Press Release
San Diego, CA, April 28, 2004—30 Days Of Night: Return To Barrow #1 and George A. Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead #1 have both sold out at Diamond Comic Distributors. Both books have gone back to press for second printings, which will be available soon.
IDW Publishing printed enough for the first printings with a hefty cushion for reorders, but they didn’t last long. This follows a string of sellouts for IDW Publishing, including Silent Hill #1 and #2.
Ted Adams, IDW’s President and Publisher, said, “I’m thrilled that the demand for our books continues to exceed our sales expectations. I know that our retail partners have a tough job—every month they’ve got to make ordering decisions on hundreds of new products. As more and more of our books sell out, I hope that we’ll continue to see an increase in initial orders from our retail friends.”
30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow, written by Steve Niles, with art by Ben Templesmith, is a sequel miniseries to the groundbreaking 30 Days of Night. George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, adapted by Steve Niles with art by Chee, is a comic book adaptation of the classic zombie movie. Both are full color, 32-page comic books, with retail prices of $3.99.
IDW PUBLISHING is a division of Idea + Design Works, LLC, a revolutionary creative service company with a wide range of clients. Among IDW’s titles are CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation; Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith’s 30 Days of Night and its sequels, Dark Days and Return to Barrow; Ashley Wood’s Lore; CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations; and Steve Niles’ Wake The Dead, Remains, Aleister Arcane, and Hyde. Columbia Pictures has optioned the movie rights to 30 Days of Night, with Sam Raimi attached to produce. Konami is producing a video game based on CVO: Covert Vampiric Operations. Dimension Films has optioned the movie rights to Wake The Dead and Hyde.

Don MacPherson over at the The Fourth Rail gave ALEISTER ARCANE #1 top marks! Don said:
“This may just be the best and most original story Steve Niles has written yet: a horror story about a man who loves the fun of horror story. Despite the darkness and sadness that permeates this comic book, ultimately, the tragedy stems from the passion and delight that the title character found in his favored genre. Niles offers up some biting social commentary in the process while celebrating what could be described as the snubbed, red-haired bastard child of American culture.”
And there’s more! Follow the link above to read the full review and then talk about it on the
Steve Niles Forums.

Steve’s been busily writing comics and IDW Publishing’s been busy getting them out there. Today, April 21st, sees the release of three different Steve Niles/IDW offerings: ALEISTER ARCANE #1, RETURN TO BARROW #2 and DAWN OF THE DEAD #1. That’s quite the trifecta!
In other news, the kids over at Well Red Press take a look at the recently release DARK DAYS trade paperback. Have a look and see if you agree with them. And if you’ve not yet read DARK DAYS, well, what’s up with that? Ask you favorite retailer to put a copy aside for you or pick yourself up a copy from the store.

We’ve got a four page preview of the May debuting title LAST TRAIN TO DEADSVILLE: A CAL McDONALD MYSTERY here on SteveNiles.com for you. Head on over to the Image Gallery or click here for a direct link to the preview, featuring Kelly Jones goodness!
A lot of comic shop owners don’t by much outside of DC or Marvel, so make sure you drop your favorite comic shop a note that you’d like a copy of LAST TRAIN TO DEADSVILLE yourself.
The book is scheduled to hit comic shops May 19th from Dark Horse Comics.
